What's New...

Annual RUGBY Survey - It is always better to listen to our local players to ensure volunteers serving them are delivering to meet expectations and that we are actually serving a purpose. If you have not received the email link for this survey, please email secretary@gloucestergirlsrugby.com .   Click the link below to see the results, which will change as more of you complete it.

What is it all about ?

This survey helps us understand better and decide whether what we deliver is right for you and for the good of the sport as a whole.

Comment - "No Change ?"

This morning it hit me hard when I received a Spectators comment stating that the website was not changing.  Hands up - I have to apologise and I admit I have been rather lapse lately, through purposesful neglection -  I am rather tired of whats happening in the game - or not. I have received one email from the National Governing Body RFUW; Nothing from the local governing body GRFU and no invites to any rugby meetings and only local CSPAN meetings mostly on how to apply for funding. (Apparently there is loads out there...If you can get your hands on it, as long as you are not delivering with money you have not got, which shows you don't need it - confused? Me too.!!)     See the new page for the change...

WHAT’S YOUR JUICE?

THE SEARCH IS ON TO FIND THE MOST SKILLED KIDS IN THE UK  - Can you deliver a RUGBY skill to make the 2010 Robinson's JUICECREW?

Robinsons Fruit Shoot is launching a search to find the most skilled kids in Britain. They say that you never know when something’s going to come in handy. Well, for those kids out there with some super-cool skills up their sleeves, the time is now!

Fruit Shoot is looking to discover four especially skilled kids who’ll be chosen to star in a new TV ad. The new Juice Crew will take over from the stars of the 2009 ad and will go onto display their skill on TV in front of the nation this summer!

Together, the current Juice Crew made up of ‘Boots’ & ‘Bex’, the ‘football keepy-uppy king and queen’, the amazing beat-boxer ‘Boxer’, an accomplished ping-cup player ‘Ping’, and the British skipping champion ‘Skippy’ are encouraging kids to start sharpening their skills ahead of the search.

Kids will be able to audition online or at one of five regional locations. No matter what the skill isit could be anything from gymnastics to juggling, break dancing to body popping or even origami, puppetry or Ping Cup - auditions for the Juice Crew 2010 will be starting in March. The online auditions open on March 12th and from 30th March regional auditions will be taking place around the country. All kids need to do is decide what their skill is, get practising, and get ready to showcase it in front of a video camera. Finalists will be announced at www.fruitshoot.com in May and then it will be down to the British public to vote for their favourite. So, to all kids out there, get practising and prove you could join the crew! For further information on the auditions log onto www.fruitshoot.com (click on the logo to enter the site).

Who ate all the Smarties? !...........

Back in November, most players were given a tube of smarties to  collect 20p's to return to the charity as a fun-d raiser, thanks to Debbie Waldron (idea) and Clare Henman (actioned).  A big THANKS must be extended to Thyrza and Gemma (Under 12's) who returned their tubes full of coins. Sadly, the new design does n't quite contain the money as the original smartie tubes, but an envelope helps!  Please can everyone else who enjoyed the smarties, now return your collections.

"Money makes the World go Oval"

Every year, volunteers of GGR actively apply for grants to deliver this programme. A recent third application for a grant from Sport England has sadly been declined again. It was hoped to make a GGR classroom base at Hartpury to help us with an off pitch environment; help deliver next years programme and support the volunteers who travel from Bristol, Thornbury and Lambourn in travel expenses.

Another bid applied for -  a 20 minute Tesco on line application is pending. Tesco have got it right, appreciating the limited resource that is volunteers time.

Had we received all 5 grants applied for in the last two years , I have no doubt that rugby in Gloucester would be thriving with no clubs struggling to get full teams out and with schools actively working on succesfully growing the community game together with their link clubs.  Grants have now been declined by Sport England (CIF), RFUW -  SportsMatch and National Lottery Small Grants, but granted by Gloucestershire Community Foundation, Gloucestershire Youth Network and Gloucestershire Sport Relief .

Charities such as ours guarantee full grant investment into the sport through the programme. GGR turned over £27,000 last year through sheer hard work, however, Operational spend to generate a small profit from this means that this year has seen a complete swing in effort in applying to other Bodies to support us.

We can be proud last year that we invested £3,000 into Gloucester City 10's , feeding all players with lunch as well as providing a "pocket-money" friendly cafe throughout the event and the best evening entertainment in Simply Red to make a swinging evening enjoyed by players and the RAF alike. The challenge is on to deliver this again this year.

What can you do this year?

If you are a qualified Level 2 CRB cleared Coach and are interested in day time coaching at schools - please talk to your local RDO to select a school and club to help with local female links through a school-club programme.

Events - Marketing Opportunities

In April we have our legacy event - Gloucester City 10's. Many volunteers have gifted their time to help raise the profile of the game through delivering the Gloucester City 10's, whilst raising aspirations of players for their careers' into organisations who support rugby careers - namely the RAF.

On April 17th & 18th the RAF Careers team will be challenging some 630 players to complete the RAF Team Mental Challenge alongside some 44 teams in the Tens rugby competition. The weekend promises to  be a great one.  Entries have now closed for this event.

With our England Captain proposing to pop in, should also provide an opportunity for the players and volunteers to wish her good luck for the World Cup quest to become "World Champions" some 4 months later.

We have all seen the rise of Womens Football and Cricket through similar quests and subsequent wins - the pressure is on for the game of rugby to step up to the plate and deliver to prove the return on investment in the elite funding strategy. Success breeds success.

We look forward to meeting new and re-visiting teams for the Gloucester City 10's and have sent confidential information to the registered teams now.

Summer Camping

The first cold and dismal weekend of GGR in 2010 and GGR has already had parents booking their place on the beach for the RFU Beach Tag Rugby in Cornwall and our 4th annual family camping trip! Information will be communicated on this event after the Gloucester City 10s.

Players and Clubs do need to decide however, whether they prefer attending and supporting the World Cup over playing in a beach rugby competition this year? Over to you.......

As ever, GGR will continue to support you as long as you wish to be supported.  We would appreciate any partner support and feedback to benefit our local players.

All the best.

Team GGR
