Player of the Month - March 2009- Becky Robins

Becky Robins

Welcome to this section which celebrates and congratulates players who have made an outstanding contribution to a coaching session or match, or who have achieved success.

The reaction to these types of "awards" are always difficult to guage, with some players being embarassed by them, and others (most especially those who do not receive them) making fun of them. There seems to come a time when gaining recognition is no longer 'cool'.

This page has been borne out of a genuine desire to recognise those players who have impressed, who have exceeded expectation and who have demonstrated a commitment to challenge themselves to be better. It is hoped that the players who appear here are proud that their performance has been noted by their coach as being outstanding, and that other players strive to achieve the same. Time will tell.

March's player of the month goes to Becky Robins who joined us this year.

Becky plays for Thornbury at lock, but would be equally adept in the back row or even on the back-line. She will really come into her own at Under 18s when her athleticism will enable her to soar high in the line-out to add to her contribution around the field.

Becky has really demanded attention this month. When the regional players were elsewere Becky dominated the training area and demonstrated an ability equal to many of the players who were missing. This was matched by her performance in the last training session of the month, when coached by Richard Hill, and observed by the coaches on the side-line, she looked more than comfortable and indiscernable from the regional squad members (even though an ankle injury forced to leave the field early). Becky should have gained a good deal of confidence from this and will continue to grow and flourish as a real prospect for the future.
