Please note protect your daughters when looking for a club to join:
  • Check that any RFU club (male representative from Mini above) have registered female rugby delivery on their RFU affiliation form for female age group rugby delivery.  This is to cover insurance under community rugby (Under 12 - Mini rugby, U15, 18 and Senior).
  • Ensure your club section has a centralised budget with a managed section sub-budget for each gender and age group - to sustain the club and delivery well into the future.
  • Ensure a representative (any gender) represents female rugby within your club both on the events and management committee.  Also ensure there is attendance to the Constituent Body (CB) General Meetings (RFUW currently sit on Executive Committee) to help you gather knowledge, plan development, learn of grant opportunities, and aid with welfare and general knowledge through support & discipline of the sport in the area.
  • Any Under 15 or 18 female clubs wishing to play league matches should affiliate with the National Governing Body (NGB) - Rugby Football Union for Women (RFUW - soon to be RFU under equity laws).  This is to cover volunteer coaching insurance, volunteer & player travel to and from an event/training, match insurance and player injury cover. (Read the small print of affiliation benefits).
  • GGRCTF do not affiliate to the NGB as all players are affiliated to their local clubs (who should already be affiliated to RFUW). We self-insure for fun charity or training matches.
  • Keep in touch with the National Governing body for all events, forums and club updates - see www.rfu.com

Safety

  • Always ensure a named mouthguard has been properly fitted by a dentist to limit gum damage and/or teeth cracking/loss.
  • Encourage ankle, shin, chest and head guard protection from boots, shin pads, chest and head guards respectively.
  • Ensure your daughters coach is Criminal Record Bureau (CRB) cleared through the delivering club or school administration team management. A minimum of RFU Level 2 coach is required for a coach to deliver on their own.
  • When your Under 18 daughter is considering moving to Senior Rugby - Ensure Senior team coaches are welfare trained and CRB cleared to coach any 16 - 18 year old players alongside Women players. Note - it is recommended that there should be no physical contact allowed at under 18 for youth players against Women.  (Note - mixed contact rugby is also not prohibited from age 12+ for any gender, with serious Coach penalties issued by RFU as a result of complaints or serious injury).
  • Working around children under our 'code of ethics' involves no use of drugs or alcohol, swearing, abusive behaviour (physical or verbal), bullying or exclusion. We encourage a child and adult friendly environment and as such work independantly to maintain this safe, secure and positive outlook.

Pop along to your local club where the volunteer coaches will be pleased to help you.
